New Year, New ARCs Contest!

Hello everyone,

Happy 2010! I love new years and the idea of new beginnings, and the happy feeling of being able to wipe away the memories of failed resolutions from the year before with new (and more realistic) ones. Last year, I made a resolution to blog a lot more--and was pretty successful at it. 2009 saw 377 posts. Let's see if I can beat that this year! I'm going to shoot for 385.

Anyhoo, to celebrate the New Year here, I thought I'd host a little giveaway. I have six extra ARCs of 2010 releases sitting on my shelves here, and one lucky read will win them all. They are:

  • The Secret Year by Jennifer R. Hubbard (Excellent book, I finished it a couple of days ago.)
  • All Unquiet Things by Anna Jarzab (Another fantastic debut, you don't want to miss this one!)
  • Captivate by Carrie Jones (Yay for the sequel to Need! It'll satisfy your needs and leave hanging for more!)
  • Incarceron by Catherine Fisher (Have you seen the trailer for this one? it looks SO GOOD!)
  • Wish by Alexandra Bullen (I'm reading this one now, very cute!)
  • The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson (How awesome is this one's cover?)
Awesome, right? Okay, so all you have to do in order to be entered to win is answer my nosy question: What's your New Year's resolution? If you don't make them, why not?

Answer in the comments and you'll be entered to win! This contest will end Friday, January 22nd, 2010 at midnight. The winner will be notified sometime over the weekend.

Thanks so much for reading, and Happy New Year!

Awesome contest! I have made New Year's resolutions in the past, but I did not make them this year because I am horrible at actually following through with them. :P

Leslie said...

I don't usually make resolutions because they are too vague for me to ever stick to. So instead, I'm setting the goal to read 100 books this year.

Katie said...

Great contest! My New Year's resolution is to finish my current WIP- a YA novel I've been slaving over for six months now. I'm shooting for mid/end of January! :)

Rachel Stark said...

I'm normally pretty awful at following through on (or even remembering) my New Year's resolutions, but this year I'm making one that I think I'll be motivated to keep: be good at my new job! As long as I can do that much, I think everything else that can be good and happy will follow.

ReadingCountess said...

What a great idea! I have one simple resolution that I hope will transcend many aspects of my life, both personally and professionally. The resolution is: to lighten up. Weight is an obvious one (how can you mention resolutions without putting weight together with it?), but I hope to be freer with my boys, reduce/organize our home for the hopeful sell of it this summer and release myself from the ties that bind me.

Rachel Stark said...

oh, and my email is rachel(dot)stark(at)hotmail(dot)com.

Amber Skye said...

I would LOVE to win these! My New Year's resolution is to spend more time reading instead of shopping for books.

The Library Lurker said...

Oh wow, winning those would be AMAZING! Thanks sooo much for the contest! My New Year's resolution is to eat better and start working out again. Fun right? :P

Natalie said...

Awesome! Count me in!

One of my resolutions this year is to up the number of books I read from 70 to 100. Every year I try to beat my previous year's count, but I'd really like to get 100 in this year! Thanks for the contest!

Lana said...

I don't really make resolutions because I'm terribly contrary. If I've resolved to do something, I'm bound to put it off or subliminally sabotage things. So instead of anything concrete to angst over or procrastinate, I've resolved simply to make this year a better one than last year!

Happy New Years!

Nikki @ Bookizzle said...

Ohh, sounds awesome!

For the most part, I don't really make new year's resolutions for my personal life, because, well, life is too unpredictable. But I did make an exception this year for reading/blogging.

I'm setting goals to read more (and pass my 118 books read in 2009), interact more with bloggers, post more reviews, and maintain an active blog. All perfectly attainable, hoping some random catastrophic event doesn't take place, haha.

Thanks for the contest!

To live a simpler life! That's my biggest resolution. Simpler food, better food, less "things" and more experiences. Awesome contest, thanks for the opportunity!

Great contest. My New Year's resolutions have more to do with my blog than anything. I just want to try to post something everyday and talk to some more bloggers. =]

My New Year's Resolutions are to post more reviews, be a more positive person, and to enjoy my last year and a half of high school.

Anonymous said...

No need to add me to the contest, but I did want to wish you a Happy New Year!!

Margay Leah Justice said...

My resolution is not to make resolutions any more. I feel like we put too much pressure on ourselves to make these promises to ourselves that are usually impossible to keep. Then we spend the rest of the year beating ourselves up over the failure. It is better to set achievable goals instead.

Sarah said...

My new year's resolution is, perhaps stereotypically to lose weight. But more than weight loss I want to focus on healthier eating which I think is even harder to do.

Thanks for the great contest!

Beth S. said...

My New Year's resolution is to read more and worry about paperwork less. I always get so behind with grading papers and it always used to bother me, but I'm starting to develop the philosophy that I'm a much better teacher if I read what kids are reading and can talk to them about books than I am giving them a ridiculous amount of homework that I then have to, myself, check, which means that I'm really making myself miserable, not just my students. Wow, that was a really long-winded resolution.

Anonymous said...

My resolution is to continue losing weight and working out on my Wii Fit plus.

It really works, but it takes time and motivation to do so.

The Book Whisperer said...

Oooh, I've made a few this year but my top one is to read more books that this year which ended up at exactly 100! Better get cracking then.....

(Great givaway by the way - hope I win).

Tina's Blog said...

I'm not very good at keeping resolutions but I would like to become more organized/less cluttered in my home. I would also like to pay off all my credit cards and work on eating more healthfully.

Erica said...

I'm usually REALLY bad about keeping New Year's Resolutions but I'm determined to follow through with this one this year :)
I used to dance and play a lot of sports, I quit sports and continued to dance but now I quit dance to. Since then I feel like I'm not active enough and don't eat well, so that's my new years resolution. I am in show choir which is 5 hours a week - but we're not dancing the whole time so I want to get healthier again.

:) Erica

Awesome contest! For my New Year's resolution I want to do several things. I want to get more organized in my studio apartment space, work out at least 4 times a week and be less stressed all around in my life. And of course, I want to read more books. At least 100 this year is the goal!

My new years resolution is to be a better blogger! I really it, and I just want to be more active in it! :] Also, I really want to read 200 books this year!

Sandy said...

Great contest! I have a ton of resolutions but the one that matters most to me is to become more active. I'm always sitting on my butt reading, writing or using the computer and I know that that's not going to do wonders for my health in the future. I'm planning on working out more JUST so I can become more healthy. I'm not even going to worry about "looking good" for others.

My contact info is on my profile should I actually win, LOL ;)

Thanks for the contest and happy new year to you! My resolutions are to be more present and mindful with myself and others, continue my quest to pick up litter wherever I see it, and to help make many family events extra special this year (mom and dad's 40th, and my brother & sister-in-law's 20th, not to mention many landmark birthdays).

Still need to think of how exactly I'm planning to do that... =]

Eek! I'd love to win this giveaway. I don't make resolutions because, frankly, I have the habit of overthinking absolutely everything. I stress myself out about long-term projects (e.g. resolutions) so I've decided that to make life easier for myself I just never do it. I have vague IDEAS of what I will work towards accomplishing, but nothing set in stone! Similarly, I haven't joined any of those 2010 reading challenges that have been popping up everywhere, heh. :)

I don't really make New Year's resolutions because I feel that saying I'm going to do something doesn't make it any more likely to happen!

Becca said...

You are implying I only have one! haha

Here is what I have so far:

1)Instead of the old "lose weight" resolution, I am doing Trisha's 100 Mile Fitness Challenge and then planning to keep it up all year long.

2)Get a decent but affordable apartment.

3)Find a way to make more money since my new job pays so little. One reason I am still working on resolution #2.

4)I read 93 books this year, which is a record for me. I have never even read half that many in a year before. I want to read at least 100 in 2010.

5)To visit my friends more, especially my out-of-town friends. I am so horrible at keeping in touch.

Thanks for the awesome contest!

I have two New Year's resolutions:
1) Read 100 new books (re-reads don't count)
2) Donate two items to charity every month--I'm such a pack rat, and since I'm going off to college next year I want to get rid of some stuff I've been unnecessarily holding onto, while making a difference.

Hopefully by having two resolutions, one of them will stick!

I don't believe in New Year's resolutions. I think that if you want to make a change, then you should just go ahead and change. A new year is a new beginning, but it shouldn't be the only reason you change. :D

My New Years Resloution isn't so much a change as it is a goal. I want to get an A in my Chemistry class. I'm a junior in High School and am one of the few people in the running for Valedictorian. This Chemistry class is the hardest in the school with one of the hardest teachers. There is no extra credit and all of our exams are weighed heavily. I'm making it my goal to do everything possible to ace this class.

Interesting contest, as well as an interesting concept. I haven't really given thought to my New Year's resolutions, mostly because I seem to always fail at following through and also because I've been enjoying living in the moment.

As for my resolutions they can all be summed up in this: being a healthy and happy individual. I think that's what we're all aiming for, but that's my resolution. To simply be healthy and happy.

Really do we need anything more?

callie c said...

I don't really believe in New Years resolutions because I think people should have already started their goals when they first thought of them. Why wait to achieve what you want? If they were conscious of it before, why did they put it off till the New Year. Everyday should be a chance to improve something, or to decide that you don't have anything to improve and accept the way you are.

I love this contest. I have tried New Year's Resolutions, but rarely do I share them. Mostly because I know I will fail. Maybe this year I will try some I can accomplish. So here are my New Year's Resolutions:

1. Organize, organize, organize. I have so much to do and so little time, I need to make the most of the time I have.

2. Post more reviews. I review for the teens at our library and try to recommend the newest books for them to read. I need to find more time to read so I can get more reviews on our blog site.

3. Keep working on the library's blog for teens, and make it the best it can be. I want it to be useful to our patrons--hopefully this is the year it will catch on!

4. Read more--find the time somehow to get more books read. Last year I managed a book a week--but with my hectic schedule, that was amazing. Can I go for 1.5?

Thanks for the awesome contest:) Well, I don't really make new year's resolutions anymore, I tried making some before but we kind of have a love-hate relationship, so you know..:D Anyway, I believe that new year's resolution or not, everyday is a chance to live life a little bit differently!

Anna Moore said...

My New Years resolution is the same every year: To be a little bit better, to try a little bit harder.

Basically it means that if last year I gave everything I did 100% effort, this year I need to try for 101%+. It's just a way of furthering what I can do, and being proud of the changes I DO make and not depressed/upset over the ones I didn't!

(However, between us, my main main MUST DO OR DIE goal which I usually don't have but do this year is to complete a story/book, etc. I'm really bad at coming up with new ideas and abandoning old ones too soon, so I've made it a point to see at least one of them through!)

And our three boys... said...

Actually, my resolution this year is to read 100 books. I've never done this kind of a challenge before--I usually try a diet, or be a better person-type goal. This year, I thought I'd stick to something I'd actually accomplish! :) I would love to get some new reads to add to my list!

This is SO nice of you, all those books look great :)

My new year's resolution is finally write a novel. Any novel, fantasy/romance/anything (although it will be YA cos I'm a teen so I can't really write anything else:P). I've been meaning to write a novel ever since I was 8 (a bit premature, I know) but this summer I"ll finally have some time and motivation, hopefully!

I dunno whether my email comes up on here or not so just in case:

I don't make real resolutions because I think making them at the beginning of the year puts too much pressure on them, and inspires people to make lofty, unrealistic goals that they'll end up forgetting by February. For the last couple years I've been making fake resolutions--basically just giving myself a "goal" for the number of books I want to read that year. :)

Great contest! My resolutions are to break off relationships that are unhealthy for me, to start writing a book, and to lose a few pounds.

Cool contest!

I am very proud of my resolution this year. In recent years I have grown quite attached to eating sweets, and my high cholesterol and blood sugar concerned me when I last got blood work done. So over Christmas I decided I had enough of feeling like crud and being addicted to sugary stuff. I am now on a diabetic diet and I am doing much better. I am actually sticking with my resolution, which is not something I do often.
