Lauren Oliver's Signing!

Yesterday I traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan to see Lauren Oliver, debut author of Before I Fall (a very, very fabulous book you simply MUST read), sign at the Borders there. I also met up with fellow bloggers Sara of The Hiding Spot, Kristi of the The Story Siren, and Chelsea of The Page Flipper!

We met at the bookstore around noon, and after tearing ourselves away from the books (it was hard), we went down the street for lunch and talked books and authors and events for a while. Then, we returned to Borders, browsed some more, and sat down at the fancy event area set up (conveniently located next to the YA section) and waited for Lauren to show! There weren't any front row seats to be had.

(Lots and lots of copies of Before I Fall. And this was only a third of them all!)

And when she did show (in a pair of pretty kick-butt boots that I coveted, but made me cringe at the sheer height of the heel), she greeted us, talked a bit about her background as a writer (her father is a writer, and she showed us a story she wrote when she was in elementary school), and then read two passages from Before I Fall (the prologue, and a scene from Day 5). Then, she talked some more about how the concept for Before I Fall evolved, and took questions from the audience, which was interrupted twice by a lovely man who brought us refreshments (orange creme cake and some delicious flavored coffee that I practically inhaled, it was so good).

A lot of questions were asked--it turns out that Lauren wrote the prologue and the epilogue first, outlines everything, and that her next book will be called Delirium, and is a dystopian (Want. Now.) that might possibly be a trilogy. She also has a few more books lined up as well!

Next, the actual signing commenced, and many, many, many pictures were taken. To the left is a shot of Lauren and me just after she signed my book!

And here is a picture of a bunch of all of us bloggers with Lauren!

Standing around, waiting for books to be signed!

We had loads and loads of fun, and if you haven't already picked up a copy of Before I Fall, I urge you to do so immediately! It's a gorgeous, gorgeous book, and it will take your breathe away!

I am so jealous that you got to meet up with other bloggers! And a good lunch, interesting book, meeting an author...sounds like the perfect day. Only thing missing is some time staring at the ocean waves pounding on the sand (that's because I am a So Cal girl)

Thanks for posting this! So awesome that you all were able to meet up and see Lauren at this event. I wish I could have been there, but this blog entry is the next best thing :)

Great pics, everyone looks great. I totally missed this post from back in March. :/

Just one little thing--and don't take this the wrong way because I'm totally thrilled you gave me props--my site is spelled Twi-session.blogspot.com. You had it as Twi-sessions with an S. There's no at the end. (Sorry, I know that's picky or whatever.)

It was so fun meeting all of you! See you at the reading for Delirium!
