Alexandra Bullen is the author of Wish and her latest release, Wishful Thinking! She kindly took a few minutes to answer a couple of questions about her book and writing, so check it out!
TCR: If you could live in an alternate life, where would you be and what would you be doing?
AB: Most days I really like my life and probably wouldn’t trade it in, but there are times when I dream about living in a different country. When I was younger, we used to visit my mother’s family in Greece, and I remember wishing I had been raised in the village where my cousins lived, speaking Greek and eating nothing but home-cooked Greek food. I still love to travel and experience different cultures, but it’s always fun to imagine what it would have been like to grow up somewhere else.
TCR: What would your dream dress look like?
AB: I would be the world’s worst fashion designer. I’m pretty awful at visualizing things in general, and even worse at knowing what will look good on my body. My dream dress would probably be something really sleek and flattering, but also magically made of sweatpants.
TCR: What was the hardest part about writing Wishful Thinking? The easiest?
AB: The hardest part to write was the time travel. I have always been really interested in the idea of meeting your parents before you were born, but I hadn’t thought much about the fact that you’d have to go back in time to do it. It was tricky trying to imagine what eighteen years ago would look and feel like to a teen today; it’s not a big enough chunk of time to be really dramatic and obvious, but there were definitely important differences and realities I had to keep in mind.
The easiest part was the setting. It was tons of fun to write about Martha’s Vineyard, which is an island off the coast of Massachusetts, and happens to also be the place I call home! It’s a very unique place to grow up (or grow up visiting, as I did) and it holds a special spot in the hearts of people who know it. I hope those who are familiar with the island have fun recognizing landmarks and events…and I hope everyone else will want to come for a visit someday!
AB: I am working on a new series, still in the itty-bitty-baby stages. I can’t say much except that there are no wishes or dresses involved, but the main character is a feisty, kick-ass girl on a mission. I can’t wait to get to hang out with her for a while!
Thanks, Alexandra! Can't wait to hear more about that new series!
