Reading Rants: Get Your Romance On

Okay, so some of you might not buy into the whole Valentine's Day thing, and that's cool. I get it. I don't really have anything against it, but I also don't have any reason to get excited for it, except for it seems to be one day when it's okay to get all sappy over romantic books and movies and you get teased about it less than usual.

So, if you're in a romantic mood, and you want to read a nice little love story, here are a few books whose romances stood out to me:

Willow by Julia Hoban

There's just a ton of emotion in this book, period. The romance between Guy and Willow is so sweet and tentative at first, and one of the best things about this one is that they have legitimate problems they face and conquer together, which makes them stronger.

Jane by April Lindner

This modern re-telling of Jane Eyre with Mr. Rochester as a rock star is very romantic and very sexy! Definitely pick up this one if you like a bit more an electrifying romance!

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

This is quite possibly one of the most perfect romance novels I've ever read. There are fun accents, boarding schools, and uh, it's set in Paris! The ultimate romantic destination. There is no way that you CAN'T fall in love with this book.

Ice by Sarah Beth Durst

If you like a little fantasy, then definitely check out this one, which is a modern retelling of East of the Sun, West of the Moon. It's adventurous, innovative, and completely engrossing! Read it, read it, read it!

Impossible by Nancy Werlin

This one is an excellent story of enchantments, curses, and love strong enough to break them. It has a very lovely little romance that is like the icing on the cupcake!

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

I think that this one is so popular just because of the realistic, lyrical, and breathtaking romance between Sam and Grace. Sure, there's a nice, complicated plot with the mystery of the werewolves, but it's also very simple when it comes to the great attraction the two characters feel for each other, making this such a magnetic book.

Timeless by Alexandra Monir

This is an absorbing book that slips through time, through some of the most glamorous eras in history, the Roaring Twenties and the Gilded Age of New York. And the romance is only made better by the two romantic songs that accompany the book, available on iTunes!

I Now Pronounce You Someone Else by Erin McCahan

If you're a realist, here's a great romance for you. Bronwen is sure she's found her soul mate in Jared, so when he proposes to her when she turns eighteen, getting married the summer after high school seems perfect. But real-life romance isn't always a fairy tale, as Bronwen is about to find.

Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles

This is another hot romance, featuring sexy, torn Alex Fuentes who is a gang member and Brittany, blonde, rich, and just a little stuck up. Both are shocked are when they fall for each other, but staying together will be the true test. The best part is that this one is the first of a trilogy, The next books are Rules of Attraction and Chain Reaction!

What do you think? What are some of your favorite romantic reads?

Of this list, I've only read Shiver and Ice (which I LOVED!), but I plan on reading most of the other. I didn't imagine Willow as having romance, though.
